What is Excel?

Excel is an electronic spreadsheet program that is part of the Microsoft Office suite.
You use Excel to organize, calculate, and analyze data. The tasks you can perform range
from preparing a simple invoice to creating elaborate 3-D charts to managing an
accounting ledger for a company.

Microsoft Excel 2010 makes it possible to analyze, manage, and share information in more
ways than ever before, helping you make better, smarter decisions. New analysis and visualization
tools help you track and highlight important data trends.

This version of Excel uses the new interface that was introduced in Excel 2007, so it
might be unfamiliar to users of older versions. However, Excel 2010 is designed to give
you easy access to every command and feature of Excel , and the new features make it
easier to create more powerful spreadsheets. Whether you’re producing financial reports
or managing personal expenses, Excel 2010 gives you more efficiency and flexibility to
accomplish your goals. It’s clear to see why Excel is the most used software for spreadsheets.

MOS certification

The above courses are also designed to help students pass the Microsoft Office Specialist
(MOS) exam for Excel 2010. For complete certification training, students should
complete all of the above courses.

Worksheets vs Workbooks

In Excel, you work with worksheets, which consist of rows and columns that intersect to
form cells. Cells contain various kinds of data that you can format, sort, and analyze. An
Excel file is called a workbook, which by default contains three blank worksheets.
